Hotel Duval

Addition of the Level 8 lounge atop the existing 7-story downtown hotel would result in significantly increased loads. Alpha Geotechnical performed a supplemental subsurface exploration, comparing previously determined soil and foundation conditions. Using state-of-the art techniques, Alpha engineering staff determined a more than adequate safety factor for foundation support with the improvements.

Plaza Tower

Alpha Geotechnical and Testing Services, Inc. performed the subsurface exploration for the 23-story residence building, then analyzed foundation options. The below-grade parking deck required temporary tie-back walls, with installation monitoring and testing performed by Alpha Geotechnical. During building construction, over 500 auger cast piles were installed under supervision and testing by our team. Additionally, Alpha Geotechnical performed all soil and concrete testing for the project.

T.P Smith Water Reclamation Facility

The T.P. Smith Water Reclamation Facility (TPSWRF) provides wastewater treatment and water reclamation for the majority of the city. In order to comply with more stringent nitrogen limits, the existing 26.5 mgd facility needed to be upgraded. Alpha Geotechnical and Testing Services, Inc. provided construction materials testing services on the facility expansion.

Metropolitan Corporate Center

Alpha Geotechnical and Testing Services completed a thorough subsurface exploration among the 14 development tracts in the Metropolitan Corporate Center development site. Finding medium dense clayey sands dominating the soil profile, shallow spread footings were determined viable in Alpha’s geotechnical evaluation. Alpha personnel performed earthwork and concrete testing on this first of many planned multi-story office buildings.

Aloft Hotel

The site of the 162 room Aloft Tallahassee Downtown was explored in a subsurface exploration by Alpha Geotechnical and Testing Services. Auger-cast piles were found to be the preferred foundation during evaluation by the Alpha Engineering staff.

First District Court
of Appeal (1st DCA)

The Florida First District Court of Appeal was constructed on former farmland in the Southwood community. With the aid of subsurface exploration (both geophysical and soil borings), Alpha Geotechnical completed the evaluation for foundation design (shallow spread footings), infiltration characterization for storm water management, and potential for sinkhole occurrence at the site. Alpha personnel monitored earthwork operations as the project progressed.
